Mayor Clancy’s State of the City
Address
January 29, 2003
Lynn Mayor Edward “Chip” Clancy
presented his 2003 State of the City Address at a breakfast
meeting hosted by the LACC. Over 150 local business and government
leaders attended the meeting held at the Porthole Restaurant.
Clancy’s speech focused on the mounting state and local fiscal
crises. Clancy pointed to several success stories that prove
positive things are happening in Lynn. He mentioned Lynn’s
reduction in the crime rate, improving schools and MCAS scores,
soaring property values, and new development in downtown Lynn,. He
also referenced some additional positives when he discussed Lynn’s
new professional baseball team, the North Shore Spirit, and
progress made between the city and General Electric on opening
Federal Street to the public.

The LACC will present this event
in conjunction with the Saugus Chamber of Commerce. Corporate

Meeting with Massachusetts Speaker of the House

April 2, 2003
The LACC hosted Massachusetts
Speaker of the House Thomas M. Finneran for an informational
Breakfast Forum at the Porthole Restaurant. House Speaker Finneran
discussed the Commonwealth’s current fiscal crises and its impact
on Lynn. It was a great opportunity for LACC members to meet the
Speaker and ask him questions regarding state government and
legislative issues.

Career Expo 2003 was held at
North Shore Community College. It was sponsored by the LACC, North
Shore Community College and The Daily Item. Thousands of college
students and job seekers attended. The following companies

Spring Golf
Outing
June 5, 2003
The Spring Golf Outing was held
at Kelley Greens in Nahant Approximately 60 members participated
in the cigar friendly tournament and BBQ. The team from Eastern
Bank took home the first place trophies, while the team from Hope
Trucking & Demolition earned the trophies for last place. BJ
Frazier, The Daily Item publisher, won the special achievement
award as the day’s most honest golfer. The sponsors of the Spring
Golf Outing were: Bibby Real Estate, Brotherhood Credit Union,
Eastern Bank, Hope Trucking & Demo, Inc., Lynn Housing Authority,
Massachusetts Electric, Porthole Pub, River Works Credit Union,

Annual Meeting
June 12, 2003
The 2002 Annual Meeting, held at
Hawthorne By-the-Sea, featured State Representative Steven M.
Walsh as the keynote speaker. Rep. Walsh Massachusetts State
Senate President Thomas Birmingham as the Keynote Speaker. The
2003 Annual Meeting also featured the election of the LACC’s
officers and directors for 2002 and the President’s Report from
LACC President Maura Lynch. Over 150 Chamber members attended.

2003
August 18, 2003
The weather was perfect the
Chamber's 2003 Annual Outing. The outing was held at Gannon Golf
Course where approximately 150 golfers enjoyed a great day of
golf. Once again there was a putting contest, a $50,000
hole-in-one prize, a car hole-in-one prize, and much more. More
Chamber members arrived at the end of the day to take part in the
BBQ, and Awards Ceremony, and the Raffles! The Presenting Sponsors
of the 2003 Annual Golf Outing were the North Shore Spirit and
Willow Laboratories and Medical Center. The other Major Sponsors
of the 2003 Annual Golf Outing included: $50,000 Hole-In-One,

Vinnin Square
Sidewalk Sale
August 15 and 16, 2003
The local Vinnin Square Merchants
held a giant sidewalk sale at the Vinnin Square Mall on Paradise
Road in Swampscott. The 2-day sale, co-sponsored by the Lynn Area
Chamber of Commerce, featured hundreds of items from the stores in
the Vinnin Square Mall with the lowest prices anywhere. Some of
the participating businesses included: Infinity and Skate Skins
Fashion Boutique, Kabloom Florist, Leather World, Athlete’s
Corner, Photographics and Trader Joe’s.

The Enterprise Center at Salem
State College in conjunction with the Beverly, Lynn, Peabody, and
Salem Chambers of Commerce hosted the second annual Small Business
Expo and Conference on Tuesday, October 7, 2003. About 120
exhibitors participated. The LACC members that participated in

held by The Daily Item. It featured seminars, a business expo and
a luncheon all held at North Shore Community College. The Lyndia
Pinkham award for Businesswoman of the Year was presented to Wanda
Ritchie of Eastman Gelatine Corporation. Congratulations to all of

Thomas M. McGee was the Keynote Speaker of the 2003 Awards
Breakfast held at the Porthole Restaurant. The breakfast is the
Chamber’s opportunity to recognize deserving local businesspeople

First Book Lynn
Donor Recognition

The LACC recently became involved
with the efforts of First Book Lynn. First Book is a national
nonprofit organization with a single mission: to give children
from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their
first new books. First Book was brought to Lynn in March of 2002.
In its first year in Lynn, First Book raised $5,000, thanks to
Keyspan Energy Delivery the founding member of First Book Lynn
with the initial $5,000 donation. In 2003 the LACC raised $15,000
for First Book Lynn. The donors who were recognized at the LACC’s
